3DTubeMe - Beta

Postby olihar » 08 Apr 2011 20:09

I am happy to announce, Cesar Andreas Lopez and myself, have opened a social three-dimensional web-service. Currently In public Beta.

What you can do is upload any of your images, wait for them to process and view them online in any WebGL powered browser. To create and view you have to have a Facebook account.

Image

You can take screenshots on the fly of your model and post them to your Facebook profile. From now on you do not only have the option of sharing Images and videos on Facebook. Share three-dimensional models to go along with it.

Please give it a try and report any suggestions or opinions on the project, here or on the webpage itself.

Congrats to you both! Lots of potential there.

You might want to look at the source code for http://www.Palentier.com. We were able to calculate the internal geometry of most cameras without creating a database for each.

Great job!

Hi all,

This is a very good project. to make it like a game is a good idea too !!

I got 3 questions though:
- will it be a game like photocity ? (with adding multiples pictures to increase the model acuracy ?)
- I send some pictures to make a model, but I loose the webpage and I can't find a way to get back to the wait page. or how the model will tell me it s finished ?
- And last question: Will you do share the website source, to make our own website like yours ? or a posibility to create a server node to increase your processing capacity ?
(the sfm and photosynth toolkit do there jobs quite well though :D)

Have a good day, Nice Project.

Many things are unknown as this is pretty early in the project. We are open to all suggestions.

Today has been pretty hectic due to unforeseen traffic, but things seem to on the road again.

It is great to see WebGL used for this kind of visualization !

I think making the WebGL PLY viewer OpenSource could be a great addition for the community !

How it works regarding the license of the software you use ?

I think you use SIFT as a keytool and it is patented ...

Another question . Which licence do you put on used images ? (The problem is also posed in Photosynth)
=> I see for example the "Detenice fountain" scene from which images comes from the CMP prague laboratory.
http://cmp.felk.cvut.cz/projects/is3d/Data.html
It is written that you could used freely the image. But do you have to cite the source ?

It's open question regarding all the 3D reconstruction web service... I think answer to those questions are not clear and not easy.

So a little update, now everyone can view models, still need a Facebook account to create, more possibilities to publish coming soon.

Yes Licenses on image data is always a little tricky, these things are all being worked on.

Olihar, what happened to your great service? It doesn’t look to be alive.
